Happy spring everyone!
Celebrating here from Texas where the season is lovely and short lived. Among all of the wildflowers, I have been most stricken this year by the dayflowers. Each one looks like it has a little face.
I’ve been making myself spend as many of the daylight hours as possible outside. One thing that I have been doing is putting little protective rock rings around live oak seedlings which are popping up everywhere. Maybe if they survive into the summer I can do more to care for them as they grow. I would love to be a part of slowly replacing the freeze blighted invasive ligustrum and skeletal privet hedge forest around my home with a regrowth of native oaks.
We went back into the studio this week for what I think was the final recording session for the next Little Mazarn record. I have been working slow on this one. Part of it is because we can only meet up on the weekends because of my teaching job. But also, I felt like I needed a little more life to happen before I finished this collection of songs. 2023 was a really hard year for me and a lot of the emotional tone of the first session definitely reflects that. This session was anything but! So much laughter and dancing joyfully around the room. This record is going to have quite an arc. I am feeling the music coming from a place of deeper self acceptance and freer collaborative spirit and I don’t think you can have a bigger success in the modern music industry than that.
One of my favorite parts of the session was that some of my cello students came over to and play. I wanted the song to have their sweet innocence and hopefulness on it and I got way more than I bargained for. It took my breath away how seriously they took our music and the tenderness of their playing.
I also loved the coincidental perfect timing of hitting record just as the bluebonnets arrived.
Our first tour of 2024 is fast approaching. Starting April 20th we head east with our friend Lou Turner of Styrofoam Winos. Lou lives in Nashville and besides being a poet and thoughtful songwriter, plays every instrument there is (looks like this tour will indeed include some flute action). In 2022, we released ‘Texas River Song’ and Lou released ‘Microcosmos.’ We had a penpal conversation about it which you can read here and we vowed to do a tour together someday. The day has arrived :)
Each of these stops was put together with love and care by Lou and I and the hosts and openers in the various towns and I am truly pleased it’s mostly happening in backyards, on farms and in DIY spaces. If you know anyone in these places that you think might like to hear our music, send em! If you want addresses or more info, email me and I’ll get it to you as fast as I can.
There’s always so much more to say but very soon I leave for Terlingua, by the time you read this, I’ll be back. More is on the horizon and the present is also so damn sweet. Have a wonderful day out there yall wherever yall is.
Xo,
Lindsey

I'm going to be in Nashville 3 times this month and next, but not at the same time to see you all play, unfortunately. Sounds like a fun tour - good luck with it!
